Zoo, Zoo, Zoo, we're off to the Zoo

On Wednesday, after a failed attempt to go the day before, we finally got going on a trip to the zoo! Since we’ve been to the Gally farm a couple of times, we thought it would be nice if we visited something different this time, so we chose the Paris Zoo at Vincennes, as I’d heard a lot about it, especially about how there were a number of ‘close to extinct’ animals that are housed in the zoo, and that they’ve been successful in breeding there. So off we went. One of the first exhibits that we came to were the ‘monkey galleries’, and Bibou was just so enthralled by them! She was simply mesmerized, especially since the first group we chanced upon were just soooo active! They were monkeying around, chasing each other, and making a huge racket. I was busy watching Bibou that I hadn’t realized that Angel was also watching them! And her reaction to seeing the monkeys jump around was quite hilarious and was even more entertaining (to prejudiced ole me of course) than the monkeys themselves. At first, she was staring at them intensely, and then she squealed with glee, giggling, waving at them. It was really funny! Reluctantly, we moved out of that gallery to see others. There were MORE ‘monkeys’ – different types. Bibou was calling out with delight ‘monkeys’…. But of course, she got sick of seeing just monkeys. Fortunately there were other animals, but to be honest, there weren’t many animals left! There weren’t any elephants, lions, tigers etc. They’re all gone. And the place was really old and run down. A lot of the exhibits were empty, or not well taken care of (though for the penguin exhibits, they had a little note up that said, “it’s the mating session now, and so to not disturb them, we don’t clean the area as much as possible!”. After, I learnt that the zoo is closing soon. What a shame. We did, however, saw some funny otters, a nice flock of flamingos (where Bibou tried to stand on 1 foot to imitate them!), and I thought the best of exhibits were the giraffes. They were lovely, so graceful! All in all, a rather nice outing, but I wouldn’t go there again.

Oh that is too bad that the zoo was not in good shape and that it will be closing. We went there several times when the boys were younger (and they went on school trips there) and it was really good - very enjoyable.

Love all of your outing posts and photos!
