Ahhh, the start of holidays! I took a week off, as with Bibou, so we have the whole week together as a family. I have a whole series of events and places to visit, hopefully the weather will cooperate! Oh yes, we've been having some really 'weird' weather. July was horrible hot hot hot (but we took advantage of it, cooling off in the swimming pool and running around in shorts and t-shirts. Now the temperature has dipped! It went even less than 15 degrees (during the day) and it has been wet wet wet :(. I was even comtemplating whether to ask Daddy to have the heat on! But even he said that it's just the thought of having the heat on during August? Unthinkable!
Anyway, we digress. On Sunday, seeing the weather was just really miserable, we decided to find something to visit that was indoors. So it was the Butterfly farm, as their description sounded really inviting : In a hot and humid environment. So off in the car we went. Oh, something new this week... Bibou has decided that she prefers to climb into her car seat now. She does not like it if you place her in the seat, she wants to be able to climb into it all by herself. And she can do it very easily too! I shouldn't have been, bu t was slight amazed when I first saw her doing it. I mean, she's really climbing every where! She's got this really stubborn independant streak in her. She also wants to climb into her high chair herself for her meals. You cannot put her in.
Anyway, we got there just in time - as soon as we arrived, it started pouring down and cold! Ah but inside, it was really warm and humid. We started taking off our layers very soon and I even began to sweat!... a lot.
Oh but what's more incredible was what we saw! In a jungle-like environment where there were lots and lots of green lush plants from around the world, lots and lots of beautiful beautiful butterflies flying freely amongst us. There were big ones and small ones, dark ones and gorgeously colored ones. There were ones that could camoflorge (sp!!) themselves. There was even a couple that were mating!
At first, Bibou couldn't figure out what the 'big deal' was. I don't think she realized that there were these little beautiful things flying about. However, we soon had her on our shoulders, pointing out the butterflies. She couldn't understand initially why they always 'ran away' when she tried to get near. She caught on soon enough, though it was difficult at first to make her understand that you cannot touch them.
They also had a little hutch where you see coccons that were all wormy and ugly, but then they begin to wiggle and bloom into these gorgeous butterflies.
All too soon, it got too hot inside! So we had to leave, and of course, the first thing that we saw and wanted were... ice cream! Bibou had a nice little treat licking up and finishing her (well, Mummy's) ice cream!
